"Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go." "Save us Lord, we are perishing." "What have you to do with us, O Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before the time?" ... "send us to the herd of pigs!"

Divine
Comfort -- Written Outline
We usually think of "comfort" as someone cheering us up
when we are sad, mourning, hurting or just down for any number of
reasons. So we may think of Barabbas as a great church "cheer leader"
since the disciples gave him that name which means "son of
comfort"
If that is your idea, it would be a little misguided. We tend to
long for someone to soothe our worries or to calm a wounded
conscience. The comfort that many seek is assurance that everything
is alright when they have done something wrong and their conscience
is screaming inside.
The Holy Spirit is our Comforter sent by Jesus Christ (John 14:16, 26; 15:26; 16:7-14) 1. "Paracletos" is the Greek word for someone called to one's side to help. Thus an Advocate, Helper, Lawyer, ... one who offers the help needed. 2. "Paregoria" denotes a soothing, solace as in Colossians 4:11. (Verbal form signifies medicines that allay irritation, English "paregoric.") 3. The comfort that God offers us is not primarily to soothe the irritation but rather to give us what we really need: the truth. 4. The result of "paracletos" is therefore comforting, encouraging, and exhorting or correcting. There can be no real help until the problems are solved and the sins are corrected.
Praise
is Comely for the Upright -- Written Outline
Psalm 33:1
“Rejoice in the Lord, O ye righteous: for praise is comely for
the upright.” 1. Rejoice
in the Lord means to delight in loving Him, in pleasing Him, and in
carrying out His will on this earth. 2. Rejoicing
in the Lord is a way of giving God praise. "Joy is the soul of
praise." Praise is diminished without the vehicle of joy
carrying it to God.
Psalm 33 can teach us much about worship attitudes that render our worship acceptable.
The
Evil in Men -- Written Outline
Psalm 14 quoted in
Romans 3 and applied to all men. 1. The fool hath said in
his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done
abominable works, there is none that doeth good." 2. This is the sad
universal state of all men. 3. This is the reason God
sent his Son, John 3:16. "For God so loved the world, that He
gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in should not
perish, but have everlasting life."
We will examine why man cannot be the measure of all things.

We propose to examine three issues. 1. Is the devil only a metaphor? the answer is no. 2. Is the devil our arch-enemy? the answer is yes. 3. Does the devil work evil within us, by temptations? the answer is yes.
Mourning and Weeping -- Written Outline
We mourn for many different reasons. 1. Unemployment, inflation, loss of savings 2. Disappointments in marriage or children, in our profession, in dreams not realized. -- Hannah wept because was barren and could not have children 1 Samuel 1:8 3. Loss of loved ones, tragedies of war ... 1 Samuel 11:1-4 -- Magdalene wept when she could not find the body of Jesus who had been crucified. John 20:13, 15-- The daughters of Jerusalem wept for Jesus as he bore His cross to Calvary, Luke 23:28 4. Ecclesiastes 3:4 there is a time to weep and a time to laugh. We need to learn which is which. When is it the time to weep and when is it the time to laugh? We sometimes laugh when we ought to weep and weep when we should be laughing for joy.

For the remission of your sins 5. Shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. We will use Peter's five points and let the Bible explain its own terms.
